The health regulator has appointed Alan Yates as Improvement Director at the trust. Alan has over 27 years NHS experience, over half of which he has spent working for mental health trusts.
Alan is employed by Monitor, but is based at the trust in a part-time capacity. He will work alongside the trust’s leadership, providing expertise and support while also holding it to account to ensure the necessary improvements are being made.
The appointment of an improvement director comes after Monitor put the trust into special measures last week as a result of concerns about the safety of services, staffing levels and leadership at the trust.
Alexandra Coull, Deputy Regional Director at Monitor, said:
This extra support will help Norfolk and Suffolk make the improvements to its services that patients need.
Alan has extensive experience of leading NHS organisations and therefore will be able to provide invaluable help and expertise.
We will continue to monitor the trust’s progress in making improvements and will take further action if necessary.

Mental health services in crisis are abandoning patients to meet targets | Jay Watts theguardian.com/commentisfree…
@CarolineAldrid5 @allwillbewell54 @MarieELFT Might be worth us collating them all and publishing. We have a collection. @NSFTtweets's latest tactic to avoid a coroner's report is to say it has done everything that would be asked already, even though track record is of saying not doing. Shame coroners are falling for this.
@Emmselk @allwillbewell54 @MarieELFT The @MoJGovUK only collects/publishes some of the Prevention of Future Deaths Notices. We'll try to dig out some more information from our records. We've regret that it isn't comprehensive, so that deaths, and actions to prevent them, were properly available for audit.
