Excerpts from the BBC interviews with the Chair of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT), Gary Page and the new interim Chief Executive, Julie Cave.
According to Julie Cave, being paid six months’ salary, if one resigns and wants to leave immediately, is ‘routine’.
Is that only for failed and overpaid executives or is it ‘routine’ for front line staff too? Of course, while NHS executives routinely seek to avoid their responsibilities to patients and the NHS, front line staff do not.
The median salary of front line staff at NSFT fell by £289 in the 2016-17 financial year.
Why is Michael ‘Pay out’ Scott taking £87,000 of taxpayers’ money meant for the NHS?
The three ‘resigned’ directors of NSFT (Michael Scott, Jane Sayer and Leigh Howlett) will cost the NHS a staggering £185,000 over the next six months.
Which front line services are going to be cut to pay these rewards for failure?
Is Michael ‘Pay out’ Scott so greedy and shameless that he expects to be paid for not doing a job when the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found his organisation’s leadership inadequate?
Other honourable Chief Executives have refused pay outs when they have resigned after the trusts they led have been rated Inadequate and placed into Special Measures.
Then again, what should we expect from fatcat Michael ‘Pay out’ Scott?
The whole of the board of the NSFT should be made to resign with no payout
Michael Scott should be made to pay every penny back, he chose to jump ship prior to the announcement. The senior management are a disgrace, the NSFT should be run by people that understand mental health. Stop sending people out of area, stop using bank staff and loccums open up all the wards closed keep NSFT PATIENTS IN THE AREA. WEST ARE JUST AS BAD AND HAVE HAD A BAD REPORT THEY EVEN HAVE A LOCCUM WHO REFUSES TO SEE PATIENTS AND LEAVES IT TO THE JUNIOR DOCTORS WHO ARE THERE TO LEARN FROM HIM.
WEST HAVE CHATTERTON HOUSE LEFT TO THEM TO BE USED FOR MENTAL HEALTH ONLY. THERE IS PLENTY OF WASTED SPACE THAT COULD BE CONVERTED INTO WARDS. NOTJUST 16 PATIENTS BUT AS IT WAS WHEN MOUNTBATTON WAS OPEN AND CHUCHILL THE LOCKED WARD HAD PLENTY OF BEDS. PAY THE STAFF DECENT WAGES. We have Care in the community but there ARN’T enough staff to man it, it’s a sad state of affairs.

The Trust is still being led by someone who believes they are in the right and the nasty critical people should stop picking on them. Can she not hear what patients and carers are saying?
In January I needed crisis support and it took eight days to organise. That is much worse than the CQC report portrays. I doubt the Board would have heard about that, though.
It seems failure pays when it comes to NSFT. If I had witnessed so many people’s deaths of service users in an organisation I had led, I would refuse remuneration for failure and take a job as a Band 4 nurse. I would clean the floors. Do these people have consciences? Get a few people on the Board who are on benefits and whose lives are challenging. I am still waiting for the NEDs to speak out about the failure that they have presided over…

So one minute Michael Scott retires with ‘immediate affect’, and Mr (I don’t see a problem), Page knew six months in advance….then next he’s being kept on for six months……you are advised to give six months notice of retirement, although you can give less, and now suddenly he’s not retiring, he’s still working…..unfortunately, more evidence that you simply cannot believe what the board say……..time for the whole lot to do one honourable thing and all resign……..starting with Mr Page
