Panorama are doing a programme this Monday at 8.30pm on The Crisis in Mental Health Services. Our Campaign has been calling it a crisis for the last two years. Mental Health workers/clinicians have been raising the alarm internally for even longer. Others have tried to deny the service is in crisis and have even claimed that a £40,000,000 cut in funding would help them “enhance” the service. Some voluntary organizations have sought to expand into areas traditionally served by the NHS. Mental health services are now facing another 5 years of cost-savings which in Norfolk and Suffolk could reach £36 million. It does not help for the Trust and major voluntary Organizations to toe the line and make out that they can deliver a safe service on current funding levels.
